Again, around 10 miles due south on the campus of the University of Washington. The north seating structure of the Husky Football Stadium

University of Washington Football and Softball stadium

I am straying about 10 miles to the south to the University of Washington, the dominant academic institution in this entire region. I attended the Oregon State/Washington softball game today (the Oregon/Washington game was snowed out on Friday :( ) This shot shows how UW's excellent softball stadium is to the football field. That structure just to the right of the right field line is the football field scoreboard.

Seattle Art Museum

Today I visited the Seattle Art Museum in downtown Seattle (Lake Forest Park borders Seattle to the north) with my daughter and her friend, Janine. This installation with the flying flashing cars graces the main lobby. We went to see the Roman artifacts from the Louvre. Lots of marble and lots of people. Amazing how many statues are of bodies and heads that did not start out together.

The gathering

These young men are gathered in the lower level of the Lake Forest Park Mall near the card shop late on a Saturday afternoon. I think they are playing the card game Magic, not sure. Or similar. I've seen groups like this meeting in the area next to the library. Engrossed and having a good time. The light was low, the quality not so good

Forsythia

Forsythia is blooming in Western Washington. This overgrown bush is in my backyard, I'm always whacking it down. Pretty right now. The weather here is very cold. Tomorrow the University of Oregon softball team opens the season against the University of Washington. Forecast is rain mixed with snow and 10 mph winds. It's gonna be cold!

Reconstruction after storm

Part of a culvert on Lyons Creek at the front of our cul-de-sac collapsed last December. The Public Works people were right on it, making the repairs within a few days.

Back of Acacia Cemetery

A view of the back of Acacia Cemetery. In Lake Forest Park just on the other side of Bothell Way from the Lake Washington. This is very near Briercrest Elementary School. I believe this picture was taken just about on my father in law's site looking over the cemetery towards the lake

Squirrels are LFP residents!

My daughter Ilana inists that I feature squirrels as valid Lake Forest Park residents of standing. This fellow samples the corn from the special corn feeder that Susanna purchased for Dennis for his birthday. I only took this picture about an hour ago and the cob has been stripped. Located in our cherry tree in our backyard.

Those same dancers in Dublin

This picture shows those same Shorecrest Highland Dancers during their actual parade last Monday in Dublin, Ireland. I earlier posted pictures of the band and dancers during their dress rehearsal march around the neighborhoods around Shorecrest. Here they are during the real parade.

They won the "Best Youth Band" award. Pretty good!

Fountain in Animal Acres Park

Animal Acres Park is a relatively new park in Lake Forest Park on the shores of McAleer Creek across from the Presbyterian Church. The actual creek is fenced off due to salmon restoration efforts. This fountain is near the center of the park.

Political protest

The main intersection has been the site of ongoing anti-war protests for several years. The property owner on the corner clearly sympathizes with the protesters. The signs, changed occasionally, have been up for quite awhile.

Shoreline A and B soccer fields

These soccer fields located just north of Shoreline Center are the most heavily used non-stadium soccer fields in the Shoreline/Lake Forest Park area. The artificial turf was installed just a few years ago. I believe it was a joint effort between the Shorelake Soccer Club (the local soccer club) and the Shoreline School District. All of my kids played Shorelake soccer and my husband was the registrar for several years.

Lake Forest Park School

A view of the front of Lake Forest Park Elementary School. This school was completely remodeled 16 years ago, still looks pretty good. All of my children have attended this public elementary school.

Dang, my letterbox at Lyons Creeks is gone already!

View of Lake from Lyons Creek Preserve

I'm back in town and, though most of my pictures are of Oregon, I have a few up my sleeve. Here's a view of Lake Washington from the Lyons Creek Preserve taken very recently. The Lyons Creek Preserve is a new very small park located where Lyons Creek empties into Lake Washington right next to the Lake Forest Park Civic Club. This view is from a bench placed in the front of the park. Maybe, just maybe, there's a letterbox very close to this spot. You never know

Marching Band Dress Rehearsal

The Shorecrest High School Highlander marching band had their dress rehearsal last Saturday in anticipation of their trip to Ireland which starts TOMORROW. The band will march in the St. Patricks Day parade in Dublin. Always a fun event when the band in full kilt marches through the neighborhoods around the high school with police escort. The highland dancers, bagpipers and flag drill team are all included. My youngest daughter is a member of the Highland Dancers and will be going on the trip

Really fun to march along with the band!

Hamlin Park

Cold parents watching a t-ball practice at Hamlin Park, a large multi-use park in Shoreline close to Lake Forest Park this past weekend. A good mix of forest and multi-use recreation and athletics. Mighty chilly evenings (and afternoons) at Hamlin watching Little League games.

The emergency vehicle parking lot for the police department behind the city hall just above the main intersection in Lake Forest Park.

Free-riding dog

I took this picture this afternoon on my way from Shorecrest after dropping Naomi off at marching band practice. The idea was to capture the fabulous mountain view in the distance. Didn't work in this picture though it did in a few other shots. I got out of the car on NE 178th, a fairly busy street going down the hill towards the lake. I didn't even see this dog when I was taking the picture. I was trying to get a shot with no cars in it. It's forested and hilly in Lake Forest Park, WA.

Lassies Leaping

Shorecrest Highland Dancers leap down 25th NE (just outside LFP boundary) this afternoon as part of Shorecrest High School's dress rehearsal for the band/flags/choir/dancer group trip to Ireland next week to march in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin.

Shorecrest softball field

The softball field at Shorecrest High School. I spent many chilly evening hours in those bleachers. Many recent improvements to this field including the artificial turf infield and the rebuilt dugouts for the teams. Even a concession stand. The field is located up at the crest of the hill before it drops into Hamlin Park and the state Fircrest facility. You can't see the field from the north parking lot. You have to trudge up to see what's going on.

Girl Scout Cookie Time

It's Girl Scout Cookie time in Lake Forest Park and throughout western Washington. Be sure to take advantage of the opportunity to purchase cookies directly from girl scouts at the several site sale locations in the area covered but the Shoreline Service Unit (which include Lake Forest Park).

First daffodil

Some signs of spring in Lake Forest Park. As I mentioned in my main blog, spring is a long long season here, you can expect to see recent spring pictures for months and months. This daffodil opening it's bright yellow bloom in my front yard. Right now.

Play Equipment at Horizon View Park

Horizon View Park up on the hill near the reservoir. I went up here this March noon time looking for my first letterbox (which I found!). Shadow, my elderly dog, accompanies me (she's very pleased about this!). Small playground, raining a little but quite pleasant.

Trying to be spring in Horizon View

View through some older trees over the roof tops in the Horizon View section of Lake Forest Park over the territorial view across the north end of Lake Washington through Kenmore and Bothell onto the territory towards the Cascade foothills. Took this picture a few weeks ago on a very chilly windy afternoon.

These trees are trying, trying to blossom. Don't know if I could find them again to see their progress....

Gary paying his library fines

One day last week, I was at the mall getting my watch fixed and I took some pictures. Ran into my friend Gary and chatted with him. I snapped this picture as he paid his library fines at the Lake Forest Park branch in the mall. Teased him that I was going to put the picture on my blog. He laughed and said he wanted a share of the royalties.

March 2008 Theme Day - Graffiti/Street Art

I haven't quite figure out how to sign up to be in this group. But I can certainly participate. With Lake Forest Park, there's not a lot to work with, less than 4 square miles. I think this can qualify.

What are these things anyway? I really don't know. On the sidewalk at Lake Forest Park mall on the upper level. A few years ago, I came upon an artist painting these structures/ Maybe there are only two, you can see the second in the background. Some pretty pictures of flowers and a butterfly. Is that a squirrel. Bird theme in the background
